A new Squirrel from the Stanley-falls Naturalis
Jentink, F.A..
This beautiful greenish tinged Squirrel has been procured by Mr. G. J. A. Pool at the Stanley-falls, Congostate, in August 1905; Professor Dr. A. A. W. Hubrecht (Utrecht) had the kindness as to present it to our National Museum. It apparently is an animal belonging to a hitherto undescribed species; I describe it here under the specific title of the collector: Sciurus Poolii, n. sp. It is a wood-squirrel, known by the indigenes under the name Pania ya mti (Kiswahili-dialect), rather frequent, eaten by the Negros (observations made by Mr. Pool).

A new Sumatran species of the Coleopterous genus Helota Naturalis
Ritsema Cz., C..
Allied to Helota sinensis Oll. and tonkinensis Rits., but distinguished by the differently coloured prothorax and legs, and, in the male sex, by the want of pubescence in the semiovate impression on the apical ventral segment, and by that of the tuft of long hairs on the inside of the apex of the posterior tibiae. Length 8 mm. — Above rugose in consequence of a very dense punctuation, the sutural streak, however, slightly shining; provided on each elytron with two yellow convex spots and with four rows of slightly raised glossy warts of different shape and size. The colour of the upper surface is dark greenish bronze, the scutellum and the sutural interstices coppery; the anterior lateral angles of the pronotum fulvous; the antennae fulvous, the top of the...

Billard, A.
Mollusques ArchiMer
Vayssiere, A; Joubin, L; Lamy, Ed.; Thiele, Joh.
Roule, L.; Maas, O; Bedot, M; Topsent, E.
Roule, L.; Marion, A.f.; Billard, A.; Koehler, R.; Fischer, H.; Joubin, L.; Calvet, L..

Instructions to the Marine Meteorological Observers of the U. S. Weather Bureau, 1st edition. OceanDocs
Page, James.
The form of weather Report at present issued to vessels by the U. S. weather Bureau is a slight modification of that devised by the U. S. Signal Service for the purpose of its series of International Simultaneous Meteorological Observations, covering the period 1878- 1887, which form in its turn superseded the once well-known Meteorological Journal. The last-mentioned form of record, which went into effect in 1876, and which was in many respects identical with that recommended by the Maritime Conference held at Brussels in 1853, contemplated that the various meteorological observations should be entered at the end of every two hours throughout the twenty-four, or a total of twelve sets of observations per day. The new form demanded, in place of this...

Neuer Beitrag zur Kenntnis aussereuropaeischer Trichopteren Naturalis
Ulmer, Georg.
On a collection of Land- and Freshwater Mollusks from Taliabu (Xulla-isles) Naturalis
Schepman, M.M..
The Mollusks recorded in this paper, have been collected by Mr. J. W. van Nouhuys on Taliabu, one of the larger Xulla-isles, and were presented by him to the Leyden Museum of Natural History, together with a few other species from various localities, amongst which latter are however no new species. As the only record of Mollusks from the Xulla-isles is that of Xesta citrina var. by Wallace, mentioned hereafter in my note on X. halmaherica, I thought it would be interesting to enumerate them all, instead of describing only the new forms. I think the number of species existing in that island will not be exhausted by these 17 species, the more so as the second part of the collection contained several species not represented in the first lot, but the number...

On a large Penella-species from the Moluccas Naturalis
Horst, R..
Mr. J. W. van Nouhuys, Commander of the Government-Marine in Dutch India, presented to the Leyden Museum some pieces of the skin of a big fish (Selachian?), caught in the Moluccas, that are beset with several specimens of a large Penella; in like manner upon different points of the body of these parasites, individuals of the well-known Cirripede Conchoderma virgatum Spengl. have fixed themselves. It is not an easy task to state to what species of Penella our specimens may belong, for though Steenstrup and Lütken ¹) have given us a detailed description and exact figures of four species of this genus, viz. P. sagitta, varians, exocoeti and crassicornis, and afterwards Koren and Danielssen published a rather elaborate paper on a Penella from Balaenoptera...

On a new Antelope, Cephalophus Coxi, from North-Western Rhodesia Naturalis
Jentink, F.A..
In Part I of the well-known Book of Antelopes there is a figure (Plate XIV, fig. 2), under the name Cephalophus sylvicultrix representing an animal of a color quite different from all the known specimens of C. silvicultor and therefore too differing from the animal figured l.c. plate XIII. The authors of the Book of Antelopes, p. 130, relate: »our »second figure (Plate XIV, fig. 2), which was prepared by »Mr. Smit under Sir Victor Brooke’s directions, probably »represents a young male of this species; but we do not »know for certain from what specimen it was taken.” That this figure represents a young animal, as the authors of the Book of Antelopes suggested, is not very likely, as the figure agrees in size with that of the full-grown very old specimen on...

On a new Bird of Paradise Naturalis
Oort, E.D. van.
Mr. Th. H. Ruys, who stayed during four years for commercial purposes at the north-west coast of New Guinea, presented at his return in Holland to our Museum some skins of birds of paradise, among which is, besides the rare Diphyllodes gulielmi III, also a species, being as I believe new to science. I cannot place it in any of the described genera of the Paradiseida ; it shows some relations to Diphyllodes and also to Paradisea, but as there are important differences with these two genera, I propose to call it: Neoparadisea ruysi, nov. gen. et nov. spec. The bird seems to be a male in not fully developed plumage. The tail is, like that of Paradisea, composed of 12 feathers, of which the central pair is much elongated, like in P. apoda and minor, but the...
